"Floating," original painting, 36" x 48"
Combining graphic linear detail and wide swaths of color, these expressive paintings dazzle through the harmonious and discordant use of rich colors. They draw inspiration from my weaving, and are a metaphor for the complexity and confusion of our times.
Each piece is created using many layers of drips and pours. I work intuitively, letting the painting tell me what is needed rather than having a well-thought-out plan.
The paintings start out messy, and don’t coalesce into an engaging composition until the final layer is applied. I never know ahead of time which layer will be the final one until something pulls the piece together, and it looks complete.
Sustainability is an important part of my artistic practice, and this painting was created using repurposed leftover house paint that would otherwise go to waste.
